Injured somewhere in public that wasn't your fault? You may be owed a duty of care that wasn't met

Businesses, venues, and organisations have a responsibility to keep the public reasonably safe. If they failed in that responsibility and you were injured as a result, we'll help you understand your options.

Dealing with an injury is hard enough without navigating a legal process on top of it. We take that off your plate. We handle the legal work, gathering evidence, dealing with the relevant insurer, negotiating your settlement, while you focus on recovering.

We only take on claims we genuinely believe in. If we say you have a case, you can trust that's a considered view, not a sales pitch.

What kinds of public liability claim do we handle?

  • Accidents at leisure or hospitality venues

Gyms, restaurants, hotels, or entertainment venues where a hazard wasn't properly managed.

  • Injuries caused by faulty equipment or products

Provided by a business or venue for public use.

  • Poorly maintained public spaces

Parks, car parks, or shared facilities where a known hazard went unaddressed.

  • Accidents at events or public gatherings

Where organisers failed to take reasonable safety precautions.

What if I was partly at fault?

Partial fault doesn't necessarily prevent a claim. Where responsibility is shared, compensation may simply be reduced proportionally. This is called contributory negligence. It's always worth asking rather than assuming you don't have a claim.

What you could receive

Compensation for a public liability claim typically covers two things: general damages, for the pain, suffering and impact on your life, and special damages, your actual financial losses such as lost earnings, medical costs, or travel to appointments.

We'll talk you through what's realistic for your specific situation once we've reviewed the details. We won't overpromise, and we won't quote a figure before we've properly understood your case.

How does a claim actually work?

Four stages, and you always know which one you're in.

  1. 01

    Initial consultation

You tell us what happened. We listen, ask the right questions, and give you a straight view on whether your claim has merit. This is free, with no obligation to proceed.

  2. 02

    Investigation

We gather evidence, photographs, incident reports, witness statements, and where relevant, records showing the organisation was aware of the hazard, and build the strongest possible case on your behalf.

  3. 03

    Negotiation

Most public liability claims settle without going to court. We negotiate directly with the responsible party's insurer to reach a fair settlement.

  4. 04

    Resolution

Once agreed, your compensation is paid. We'll explain exactly how our fee is calculated before you agree to anything, in line with the funding terms below.

Don't leave it late

How long do I have to claim?

Most public liability claims must be brought within three years of the accident, or three years from the date you first connected your injury to the accident. For children, that three year clock starts on their eighteenth birthday.

If you're not sure whether you're still within the time limit, contact us. We'll tell you quickly.

The money side

What will it cost me?

Nothing upfront. Where a no win, no fee agreement applies, our fee comes from your compensation only if the claim succeeds, and it's set out in full, in writing, before you agree to anything.

  • We'll explain the funding options available for your claim, which may include a conditional fee (no win, no fee) arrangement, clearly and in full before you decide whether to proceed.
  • Where a conditional fee agreement applies and your claim succeeds, a success fee is deducted from your compensation. The law limits that fee in personal injury claims, and it is never taken from any damages awarded for future care or future loss of earnings. We explain exactly how it is worked out, in writing, before you agree to anything.
  • A cancellation fee may apply if you withdraw outside the 14 day cooling off period. Full details will be provided before you sign anything.
Common questions

What counts as a public liability claim?

Broadly, it covers injuries caused by a business, organisation, or landowner's failure to take reasonable care of people using their space or services, outside of a workplace or straightforward slip or trip scenario.

Do I need to have reported the incident at the time?

It helps if you did, but a claim isn't ruled out if you didn't. We'll advise based on what you're able to tell us.

What does "public liability" cover?

It refers to the legal responsibility organisations hold for injuries or damage caused by their negligence to members of the public.

What does "duty of care" mean?

It's the legal responsibility to take reasonable steps to avoid causing harm to people who might reasonably be affected by your actions or premises.
