The claim has to account for the rest of your life, not just what happened

Losing a limb changes daily life permanently. A claim following amputation needs to reflect that, properly, and with time taken to get it right.

Amputation claims are among the most significant personal injury claims we handle, and among the most important to approach carefully. The immediate injury is only part of what the claim needs to cover, prosthetics, rehabilitation, home adaptations, and often a change in occupation all follow.

We work with medical and rehabilitation experts from an early stage, and where liability is accepted, we look at interim payments so support doesn't wait for the claim to conclude.

What kinds of amputation claim do we handle?

  • Workplace amputation injuries

    Including machinery and industrial accidents.

  • Road traffic accidents

    Including motorcycle and vehicle collisions.

  • Medical negligence resulting in amputation

Where a delay or error in treatment contributed.

  • Agricultural and industrial accidents

    Involving machinery or equipment failure.

  • Claims involving prosthetics and ongoing rehabilitation needs

Prosthetics need replacing over a lifetime, and a claim should reflect that.

What if I was partly at fault?

Partial responsibility reduces compensation proportionally rather than removing the claim. Given what's typically at stake, it's rarely a reason to hold back from asking.

What you could receive

Amputation claims cover general damages for the injury and its life-changing effect, and special damages, which are usually substantial: prosthetics and their ongoing replacement, home and vehicle adaptations, care and case management, rehabilitation, and loss of earnings where a return to previous work isn't possible.

We'll talk you through what's realistic for your situation once we've reviewed the details. We won't overpromise, and we won't quote a figure before we've properly understood your case.

How does a claim actually work?

Four stages, and you always know which one you're in.

  1. 01

    Initial consultation

You or a family member tells us what happened. We give you a straight view on whether there's a claim, free and with no obligation.

  2. 02

    Early support

Where liability is accepted, we look at interim payments early, so prosthetics, adaptations and care don't wait for the claim to conclude.

  3. 03

    Building the long-term picture

We work with medical, prosthetics and rehabilitation experts to understand what you'll actually need, rather than settling on an incomplete picture.

  4. 04

    Negotiation and resolution

We'll explain exactly how our fee is calculated before you agree to anything.

Don't leave it late

How long do I have to claim?

Most personal injury claims must be brought within three years of the accident, or three years from the date you first connected your injury to it. For children, that three year clock starts on their eighteenth birthday.

If you're not sure whether you're still within the time limit, contact us. We'll tell you quickly.

The money side

What will it cost me?

Nothing upfront. Where a no win, no fee agreement applies, our fee comes from your compensation only if the claim succeeds, and it's set out in full, in writing, before you agree to anything.

  • We'll explain the funding options available for your claim, which may include a conditional fee (no win, no fee) arrangement, clearly and in full before you decide whether to proceed.
  • Where a conditional fee agreement applies and your claim succeeds, a success fee is deducted from your compensation. The law limits that fee in personal injury claims, and it is never taken from any damages awarded for future care or future loss of earnings. We explain exactly how it is worked out, in writing, before you agree to anything.
  • A cancellation fee may apply if you withdraw outside the 14 day cooling off period. Full details will be provided before you sign anything.
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can we get help with a prosthetic before the claim settles?

Often yes. Where liability is accepted, interim payments can be requested specifically to cover this kind of need while the claim continues.

Does the claim cover future prosthetic replacements?

It should. Prosthetics need replacing periodically, and a properly prepared claim accounts for that over time, not just the first one.

How long does a claim like this take?

Longer than most, because the long-term picture, ongoing care, adapted accommodation, future earning capacity, needs to be properly understood before settling.

Can I bring a claim on behalf of a family member?

Yes, where someone isn't able to manage the claim themselves, a family member can act as their litigation friend.
